Held in Common: Orange
This section introduces the Orange Series within Held in Common, Carlyn Clark's contribution to the Chromatic Collaboration project initiated in 2019 by four members of the Hana Kark Collective (Caryl St. Ama, Margaret Lazzari, Nancy Kay Turner, and Carlyn Clark). Working independently across primary and secondary colors, each artist created 25 distinct 6” x 6” birch plywood panels per color.
As the second color in the spectrum, the Orange Series explores tactile rhythm and new hand-embroidery techniques, created under a strict sustainability commitment to use no new materials. The 25 panels feature scraps of industrial waste fabrics and interior fabric header offcuts that have been hand-painted, dyed, printed, layered, and stitched by hand and machine before being laminated to 3/4” Baltic birch plywood.
