Explore thread and stitching as bold, tactile design elements rather than mere structural alternatives to adhesive. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to layer materials, build rich surface textures, and elevate mixed-media art through expressive stitchwork.

We’ll dive into practical techniques for attaching collage elements to diverse base materials—including heavy paper, hand-dyed cloth, book covers, cardboard, and found objects. Discover how varied stitches can embed buttons, beads, wire, ceramics, and glass directly into compositions, or add dynamic line work over traditional glued paper collages.

Bring an in-progress piece to embellish, or start fresh and build a new mixed-media creation from the base up.

Workshop Details

  • Location: Dye Garden Studio — San Gabriel Valley, Southern California (Exact address provided upon registration)

  • Format: Small group workshops, private 1-on-1 instruction, and custom group sessions available.

  • Private Bookings & Consultations: Looking for dedicated one-on-one guidance, a private stitching workshop, or a custom consultation on a personal textile project? Sessions can be hosted at my studio or brought directly to your venue. Request a private session.

Supplies provided:

  • Collage materials

  • Threads

  • Photos of stitches and mending for inspiration

  • Tools and supplies from my collection to use for experimenting

  • Beads, buttons, and found bits and bobs for embellishment

 

Supplies you should bring:

  • Collage materials

  • Collage work in progress

  • Scissors or a knife

  • Cutting mat, if you use a knife

  • Needles

  • Thimble

Don't fret if you don't have any of these. I've got plenty to share.

  • Our standard classes are limited to 3 to 8 participants to ensure personal attention and room to work. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop if the minimum number of students is not met.

  • All classes and workshops must be paid in advance to reserve your space. You may change or cancel your registration up to 7 days prior to the first day of class to receive a refund issued as studio credit for a future workshop. Cancellations made after that window are non-refundable, and no make-ups or transfers are offered for missed classes.

  • If you are unable to attend, you are always welcome to transfer your registered spot to a friend. Simply let us know prior to the start of class so we can update our attendee list.

  • Private 1-on-1 instruction, customized small-group workshops, and individual project consultations are available. Sessions can be hosted at my studio or brought to your location. Inquire about a private session.
