This pattern started in a completely different direction and I couldn't get it to become anything I liked at all. So I took one small part of the complex design I was working on and repeated it in different colorways on a simple grid. It still needs work, but it took me so long to get to this point that I'm going to have to revisit it at a later date. Adobe Illustrator makes this process so much easier than drawing by hand. While I was in the middle of trying to create the repeat I was able to have many artboards open at once, with different versions of the same motifs. If I were working by hand, I never would have had the time to make so many versions.
